All about it: DECA

All about it: DECA

DECA is a non-profit student organization, with over 3,000 high school chapters and 215,000 members total it's an organization you want to know about.

What is DECA?

As mentioned above, DECA is a student organization whose mission is to prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, and other business related fields. While it has more high school chapters, DECA does have collegiate divisions as well. Their guiding principles include creating academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible and experienced leaders.

What do members do?

Members get the chance to attend leadership conferences, compete in events, and participate in community service projects. Competitions place you in real-life business scenarios in which you are asked to submit a written component in the form of an exam or report and participate in an interactive component with a judge.

Why should you join DECA?
If you are interested in a career in business, networking opportunities, and gaining comprehensive business knowledge then DECA is the organization for you! Competitions and conferences held throughout the year, in addition to guest speakers your local chapter hosts, will give you many chances to make contacts with business leaders and business-minded peers.

By participating in DECA, students are provided with a range of possibilities for leaderships and awards. Not only can you place at a competition, or be recognized with an award, but you can become a leader of your school's DECA chapter.

DECA also provides merit based scholarship opportunities through their many corporate sponsors. The deadline was in January, so keep this scholarship in mind for next year.
